Biography 

 

Turner Gray graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Degree in December 2019. He studied primarily with Dr. Justin Benavidez (2017-2019) and with Professor Paul Ebbers prior to his retirement in the Spring of 2017. Turner is currently attending Washington State University, where he is pursuing his Masters Degree in Music- Tuba Performance. Turner is currently a graduate teaching assistant primarily working with the WSU Athletic Bands. Turner is a member of the Tuba/ Euphonium studio under the instruction of Dr. Chris Dickey.

In his time at Florida State, Turner performed in all of the major ensembles including the University Symphony Orchestra and the University Wind Orchestra, FSU's top graduate- level ensembles. He also performed with the Symphonic Band and the University Philharmonic Orchestra. Turner was also a four year member of the World Renowned Florida State University Marching Chiefs. During his time in Chiefs, he served as a section leader for two years and a staff member/ drill assistant in his final year. 

Some of Turner's most notable musical accomplishments include traveling to Paris and Normandy, France to perform in the 2019 75th anniversary of D-Day, where he also was a member of the FSU Brass Choir. The Brass Choir performed at a special wreath laying ceremony at American Cemetery. Turner also received the Medal of Honor for his dedicated service throughout his time in the Marching Chiefs. He also performed in the 2019 Bi-Annual FSU Festival of New Music in both the Wind Orchestra small ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra. Turner was selected as a national finalist for the 2017 Disney All-American College Band. He has performed with the FSU Tuba/Euphonium Octet, an ensemble made up of mostly graduate students. Turner was also a member of Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps where he marched two summers, 2016 and 2018. In 2018, Turner served as the tuba section leader. He is an active performer in the WSU Tuba/ Euphonium Quartet and performs in the WSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Turner proudly performs on his Miraphone 1292 and Meinl Weston 45slz.
